Clarenbridge Oyster Festival

Clarenbrige, on the shores of Galway Bay, holds the Clarenbrige Oyster festival at the start of the oyster season each year, as a celebration of the native oyster.

Galway County Council helped the festival organisers to green the event in 2011. Food is provided by caterers throughout the weekend in the festival marquee. The greening initiative introduced several improvement measures to the festival including use of compostable cutlery and plates, food waste reduction measures, reuse of the oyster shell, food waste segregation for composting, and segregation of recyclable materials for recycling. 70% diversion from landfill was achieved.
