Thomond Park Stadium

Thomond Park is the home ground of Munster rugby. The redeveloped stadium also regularly hosts concerts, and has extensive conferencing and banqueting facilities.

The Limerick Clare Kerry regional waste management office started working with Thomond Park management to look holistically at waste, water and energy reduction.

The statium has introduced water saving measures including rainwater harvesting, use of waterless urinals, installation of tap flow restrictors, and conservation measures in the kitchen. As a result, water costs have reduced by €8,000 p.a.

Measures in relation to energy that have been implemented by the stadium include renewable electricity purchasing, tracking energy usage per attendee, and refurbishment of generators to reduce diesel use by 50%.

Work on waste has brought the stadium from a landfill rate of 90% to some recent events having zero landfilled waste.
